During my latest trip to France, I had the immense pleasure to explore the beautiful Champagne region. Among many small producers I visited, I got very surprised by an Independent producer and its marvelous guest accommodation: the Champagne Roger Coulon and their splendid B&B Le Clos des Terres Soudées, located in a small village called Vrigny, 15 minutes by car from Reims city center.

Champagne Roger Coulon is a family owned brand and they are proudly independent producers. I had the big pleasure to discover the historical background of this Champagne house with Ms. Louise Coulon, who gave me a delightful tour of their property and explained to me her family’s vision. I would highly recommend to book indeed a tour here! The property is beautiful, the wine cellar is great and you can also spend a few days there at their luxurious B&B “Le Clos des Terres Soudées”!

THE LUXURY B&B: “LE CLOS DES TERRES SOUDÉES”
The Coulon Family owns a property very close to their vineyards, that transformed in a splendid B&B for their guests. It has been fully refurbished, keeping however a traditional touch combined with modern facilities. There are 5 beautiful suites inside this elegant property.
When I reached Le Clos des Terres Soudées, I got immediately surprised by the incredible attention to details and the tidiness of the place! Mr. Kevin Robaille – the Maître de Maison – warmly and kindly welcomed me at the property, showing me around and giving me a good understanding of the surroundings.

Even if I spent only one night there during my Champagne tour, I truly had the feeling to be at home! The atmosphere was so cozy and charming that I didn’t want to leave! 🙂

THE ELEGANT B&B INTERIORS
As mentioned, the interiors of “Le Clos des Terres Soudées” show the history of the building, and they have been smartly combined with modern facilities and amenities, in order to guarantee the best comfort to its guests.

Together with the Champagne tasting at the cellar, I also had another one in the beautiful living room, upon arrival!

And at night, I really felt like being in a movie there!

THE SUITES
Inside the property there are 5 suites, and each of them has a different style and theme, related to the Champagne production. I spent a night in the “Atelier du Maître” suite: I specifically loved the wall full of Champagne-corks between the bathroom and the bedroom!

THE BREAKFAST
In the morning I had breakfast on the ground floor, and all was so perfect!

The buffet was exquisitely prepared with all local products (cheeses, jams, fruits etc): everything was very fresh and tasty, and beautifully presented too. Much appreciated!

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE: “THE ROGER COULON PICNIC”
Without any doubt, the best part of my stay has been the “Roger Coulon Picnic”. This is their signature experience and I would highly recommend to try it. It’s been one of the absolute best moments in the Champagne region for me. They prepared indeed a delicious picnic served in their own vineyards – how amazing is that?

Mr. Kevin Robaille – the Maître de Maison- prepared a cart full of French delicatessens for the picnic, with a bottle of Roger Coulon Champagne, and together we walked from the B&B to their vineyards. The weather was perfect, the landscape breathtaking. It took just 10 minutes of a very enjoyable walk to get to the picnic spot.

I adored the way Mr. Kevin meticulously prepared everything! He also brought me fresh (and warm!) bread to eat with the cheeses and all the other delicious dishes he made! I was in heaven!

Eating and enjoying a great bottle of Champagne, actually in the producer’s vineyards, has been a ‘one-of-a-kind-experience’. The sounds of the birds around me, the magnificent landscapes and the sunset made that evening truly unforgettable!

…and I got very lucky with the weather too, I have to say! 😉

CHAMPAGNE ROGER COULON: THE CELLAR VISIT
Ms. Louise Coulon (9th generation of the family) warmly welcomed me in their cellar, in order to give me the best possible tour – that I really enjoyed! She explained so well the history of the brand and the family, their vision, and their methods. She highlighted to me that Roger Coulon is one of the few Independent producers in the region.

I really enjoyed listening to her and feeling her passion about her family brand – I would hugely recommend to book also a tour in order to learn more about this very special Champagne house!

ROGER COULON CHAMPAGNE TASTING
For “Extra-Brut” and “Brut-Nature” lovers (like me!) this is surely a Champagne house to visit and explore. Of course they produce great Brut as well as Rosé, but my personal highlights go to the 2 other categories before mentioned! 🙂

We opened several bottles, and in general all I have tasted was great!

The “Esprit de Vrigny – Premier Cru – Brut Nature” was probably my favorite!

I personally love drinking Champagne, so discovering small producers and less mainstream has been a massive pleasure! The Roger Coulon Champagne is definitely a sublime gem. I would recommend to all the Champagne lovers to visit it and experience it fully as I did!

And you… are you lusting for the sublime?
Always,
Carlotta
